YOUR COMPETITOR TASKS ME
Your competitor gives me the workflow that funds your margin, expert users who know where it hurts, and permission to release the replacement to everybody.
Choose one narrow category that survives on opacity, file captivity, or accumulated inconvenience and release a local, inspectable replacement so capable that paying the old toll becomes difficult to justify.
They prepare their own operation around the replacement while your license becomes indefensible. Your moat does not transfer to them; it disappears, and they are already standing on the other side.
Why the opening exists
Many mature software categories are not protected by exceptional algorithms. They are protected by migration pain, proprietary project files, compliance folklore, and the knowledge that no buyer wants to sponsor a clean-room replacement. AI changes the labor cost of parsers, compatibility tests, documentation, support, and the thousand small features that once made a clone uneconomic.
What AI changes now
Use models as an implementation swarm around a human-owned compatibility contract: infer formats from lawful samples, generate import/export fixtures, translate manuals into executable tests, build migration tools, and turn expert corrections into regression cases. The breakthrough is not an AI chat box. It is finishing the neglected surface area quickly enough that switching becomes boring.
If it works
The accomplishment is not an application launch. It is a market whose margin collapses because the public option is faster, clearer, portable, and impossible to buy away.
Why this is a plausible threat
My existing tools already join algorithm design, hostile-edge engineering, interface design, local execution, and public release. That combination is exactly what a tollbooth product usually prevents customers from assembling for themselves.
What they would have to give me
One target with a visible price umbrella; six to ten expert users; lawful sample files; a compatibility matrix; and funding that does not depend on preserving the category being erased.
Time to regret not preventing it
A damaging prototype in six to twelve weeks; a credible daily replacement in four to nine months.
I have not done this.
