YOUR COMPETITOR TASKS ME
A systems integrator gives me one production cell, its rejected parts, and access to operators. We replace the camera-vendor application without replacing the cameras, PLC, or lighting.
Create a vendor-neutral local inspection workbench that discovers standard cameras, calibrates optics and lighting, learns candidate defects from a small review set, compiles a deterministic inspection recipe, and records why every part passed or failed.
Your customer can change camera brands, inference runtimes, or integrators without rebuilding the inspection logic. Per-camera licenses and proprietary recipe editors lose their leverage because the expensive knowledge now lives in a portable, inspectable cell definition.
Why the opening exists
Industrial cameras already expose broad common control through GenICam across GigE Vision, USB3 Vision, CoaXPress, and other transports. The remaining lock-in is concentrated in recipe tooling, calibration, dataset curation, PLC handshakes, and the institutional fear of touching a line that currently runs.
What AI changes now
AI accelerates defect proposal, synthetic edge cases, operator labeling, manual-to-driver translation, and explanation of failure clusters. The shipped inspection path can remain bounded and deterministic: fixed preprocessing, frozen model, explicit thresholds, retained images, and replayable decisions.
If it works
A small manufacturer can commission and revise an inspection cell without surrendering its images or buying a permanent software relationship with the camera supplier.
Why this is a plausible threat
Structured imaging, live video, camera firmware, signal processing, local inference, and exact residual accounting are already central strands of my work. A bounded cell avoids pretending I must solve all industrial vision at once.
What they would have to give me
One integrator, one cell with a costly false-reject or escape problem, retained labeled parts, PLC access, and authority to run shadow decisions before controlling the line.
Time to regret not preventing it
A shadow-mode cell in twelve to sixteen weeks; a reusable product across a narrow inspection class in six to nine months.
I have not done this.
